2018-2019 Grants

Heather Sivil, Kim Colella, Sherrie Correia, Peebles Grade 3 – $275

Genius Hour—Students will spend one hour each week exploring a topic of their choice.  They will then present their topics using poster boards, 3D clay models, or Google slideshow

Donna Buckley, Peebles Grade 4 – $170

Developing Growth Mindset—Students will understand the difference between “growth mindset” and “fixed mindset” through a series of activities which encourage positive thinking, perseverance, and awareness.  Students will develop strength to tackle challenges across the curriculum.

Kristi Hawkes, Peebles Kindergarten – $995

Letters Alive—Letters Alive is an interactive program that allows a sensory and digital approach to teach letters identification, letter sounds, letter formation and sentence structure. 

Eva Sheehy and Molly Rowland, Art Grades K-4 Peebles and Bournedale – $800

Adaptive Art Tools—All students will be able to meet Art Standard 1 through the use of adaptive art tools

Erica Amaral, Peebles Grade 1 – $1000

iPad Learning  “You Scream, I scream, We All Scream For Green Screens”—Students will use iPads and supported apps (Green Screen by Do Ink and Chatterkids) to write and perform books reviews.  They will record themselves in front of a green screen and create a visual review of the book.   

Tammy Kelley, Peebles Grade 1 – $1000

iPad Learning  “The Wonderful World of Whales”—Students will use iPads and supported apps (QR Code Reader, Facetime, Virtual Field Trip) to research whales and write a nonfiction story.  Students will then present their story using the app Scribble My Story.

Abby Downing, Bournedale Grades PreK-4 – $525

Counseling Resources-Play Therapy—Games and play therapy will be used to deliver social emotional curriculum and interventions. Materials will be available for all students through the counseling office.

Kerry DeGowin and Doreen Whalen-O’Shea, Bournedale Grade 1 – $300

Chick Hatching Incubators–Students will witness and study the lifecycle of a chicken.  Incubators in each classroom will be used in the beginning of this process. 

Kristina Ierardi, Bourne Middle Grades 6,7,8 – $999

Sphero Mini Robots—Students in grades 6-8 will collaboratively use Sphero Mini Robots to identify, describe and demonstrate the use of devices with sensors.  Students can use the robots to accomplish tasks and code. 

Kerri Evans and Eve Vidito, Bourne Middle Grade 7 – $340

Glacial Models and the Formation of Cape Cod—Students will understand that Cape Cod was formed by glaciation and coastal erosion through a series of hands-on labs. They will create their own glaciers for the labs

Tracey Crago, Bourne Middle Grades 5-8 – $880

Supporting Students through the BMS Mentoring Program—At-risk students are provided an adult mentor to improve the student’s self esteem through a consistent, nurturing relationship. Mentors spend one hour each week working one on one with recommended students.
